Technical note

The poems are numbered consecutively by verse in the order in which they are posted on the blog.

For each verse, one or more things are tagged and compiled in the Index of Ten Thousand Things (Index Titusind on the blog menu) As the Index grows, it may eventually become a compilation of the ten thousand things of the natural world.

Each thing is searchable in the Index, but in fact the Index can be read just as it is: an ever expanding compilation of everything around us. The index is arranged alphabetically, but could be categorised in many ways, as is our way of trying to find order and meaning.

The index links each tag/thing directly back to the poem in which it occurs. A thing will be indexed like this:

Aroma • 208 or Lignin • 1156

Aroma occurs in verse No. 208 and lignin occurs in verse No. 1156 . Clicking on the link will display the poem containing the verse in question.

The lists of contents (Titelliste 1-100, etc)) show all poems chronologically with their corresponding verse numbers.

The things selected do – as a rule – exclude human made objects and human activities that are unrelated to the natural world. But, of course, the lines are blurred, and we are also part of the ten thousand things. I do also try to tag any given thing only once. But there are many exceptions for the sake of the exploring reader and to illustrate a thing in different contexts.

Each poem is placed under a number of categories (Emneliste) that are established as I go along. The number of categories is by now about 170 concepts. The categories are part of the Index of Ten Thousand Things: they are searchable and will link to and display a group of poems by the chosen category.

The home page will always contain an updated record of the number of poems, verses and tags in the blog.
